About

From a single pause

Amidst the busyness and turbulence of life, we sometimes need a pause to return to ourselves. Metta Vipassana Monastery is such a sanctuary, where every practitioner stops to listen to body and mind, looking deeply into the root causes of affliction. Under the guidance of Venerable Kien Tue and Venerable Sister Chon Tu, the path of practice returns to its innocent source: seeing clearly, understanding deeply, letting go, and transforming. We do not seek peace in some distant realm, but learn to awaken that very source within our own hearts. We do not flee from the world, but learn to walk through the midst of it with a heart that is brighter, lighter, and overflowing with compassion. Step by step, impurities fall away, and understanding and love are nourished, so that every day unfolds in pure awareness, and our presence in this world becomes deeper and more meaningful.

Spirit

We believe meditation is not leaving life behind, but returning to it — more fully, more awake, more gently.

Vipassana brings clear seeing. Mettā brings kindness to that seeing. The two walk together in every course here.

Love, forgiveness, and tolerance.

Heritage

Metta Vipassana Monastery was founded in 2013 in Bilpin, NSW, Australia, in the Bắc tông (Northern) tradition.

Mettā and Vipassanā meditation are practised in accord with the Đại Tạng Kinh (Tripiṭaka), the foundational teachings that guide practitioners back to awareness, wisdom and loving-kindness in everyday life.
